A Pinch of Salt

Welcome to A Pinch of Salt

We are lucky to live in a place so magically blessed by salt. It purifies, protects, preserves, and softens anything it comes in contact with. It is an element needed for life and reminds us that we are connected to the earth and sea. Without salt we would die. It is a basic ingredient in most recipes. You can find it on kitchen tables in homes everywhere.

When salt is referenced in a metaphor or folk saying, it helps describe concepts and humans in a simple, down-to-earth way. Since salt was common in trade, it was used as a measure of value or worth. “Salt of the earth” is a way of saying someone is held in high regard. If someone is “salty” it means he has a sharp wit. A “grain of salt” makes us skeptical. A “pinch of salt” compels reservation — not too much; a small amount is all that is needed.

Each of us has our own ideas, beliefs, and creations. We all have a desire to be appreciated and remembered. But in the great scheme of the cosmos it sometimes feels like we’re lost in some ancient recipe we don’t always understand and don’t have all the ingredients for. Does just a pinch of salt change the result? Some perceive the difference; others never notice the subtle addition. In the end all we can do is add our personal pinch of “seasoned” salt to the great bubbling cauldron of creation in hopes that we can somehow make a difference.

We hope you enjoy our newsletter. We’ll do our best to make it “worth its salt!”
